21 Days of Faith & Fasting (draft)

Bayside Adventure 2021

As we start 2021, we want to begin with intention and set our hearts and minds on Christ. Throughout Scripture, God’s people regularly modeled prayer and fasting as a normal part of their lives. Prayer and fasting is how we can connect with God, hear His heart, and remind ourselves of our total dependence on Him.

What does the 21 days of Faith & Fasting mean?

From January 10th to January 30th, we invite you join us in connecting with God each day in prayer and in reading the Word. We also invite you to pick something to fast from to deepen your dependence on God.

What is Fasting?

Fasting is abstaining from something, typically food, to help create an added awareness of our dependence on God. By not paying as much attention to one thing we are able to pay more attention to something else. In fasting, we surrender ourselves to God, showing Him that a relationship with Him is a priority in our lives.

As a church we will prepare ourselves for all God has for us in 2021 by doing a fast of some kind and praying together for twenty-one days, from January 10th-30th.

Select a Fast

  • 21 Day Daniel Fast – fruits, nuts, vegetables, and whole grain.
  • Daniel Plan Food List

  • 21 Day Liquid Fast – juice, smoothies, soups. Give up solid foods.
  • 21 Day Media Fast – Give up media like TV, social media, movies, etc.
  • Create Your Own – Give up food or a distraction for 21 days (7 day fast, partial fast, etc.)

How to Pray – ACTS Model

Adoration is an act of praise and worship. Adoring the Lord means offering him the affections of your heart and paying honor to him for his mighty power, wisdom, strength, goodness, mercy, and love.

Praying this: You are a loving God. You are constantly by my side in every walk of life. Wherever I go, you are there waiting to show yourself to me.

In the act of confession you are asking God to remove your old, sinful ways of living. God is faithful and just to forgive sins. Through confession we are made new and more like Jesus. When you repent of a specific area, ask God to transform you into the opposite (e.g., ask for joy instead of depression).

Praying this: O God, would you renew my mind. Transform my desires to match that which you desire.

Thank God for what he has already done in your life and reflect on the many blessings in your life. Thank him for his faithfulness in keeping promises in your life, those of your family and friends, and the circumstances in your life.

Praying this: Thank you God, that you are faithful in keeping your promises to me. Thank you for the many blessings you have provided in my life.

Ask the Lord to give you the desires of your heart. Align your heart with His will through reading and praying Scripture. Remind God of his promises to you.

Praying this: I offer up my will to be in line with yours, God. Grant me the desires of my heart, that they may serve your purposes for my life.
